Richard Temple West
Doctor of Civil Law 1874
Honored with a Doctor of Civil Law degree in 1874, West was an Anglican priest who enthusiastically supported the establishment of the University of the South.
As written by Charles Todd Quintard in a letter to West’s biographer:
"In 1875 I made a second visit to England in the interests of the University. This visit was made at the request of the Board of Trustees. The Rev. Dr. Tremlett again took an active interest in the work. But no one was more enthusiastic than the Rev. Richard Temple West and Mr. Beresford Hope..."
