John Archibald Shaw-Stewart
Doctor of Civil Law 1873
John Archibald Shaw-Stewart’s grandfather was a slave owner in Tobago. Shaw-Stewart was the treasurer of the London Committee for the Southern University, established in 1867 to raise funds for Sewanee. He was honored with a Doctor of Civil Law degree in 1873.
