Alexander Brown
Doctor of Civil Law 1893
Alexander Brown received an honorary Doctorate of Civil Law from Sewanee in 1893. Brown’s family were enslavers, and he served in the Confederate Army for several years. Later in life, Brown worked as a historian chronicling the early days of Virginia.
